A small stretch on via Leonina, in the old Monti district, the Suburra romana, is the suggestive area where our restaurant La Cicala e la Formica (The Balm-cricket and the Ant) is located. It is told that since the beginning of the twentieth century up to the seventies this place was the refectory of the students of the Engineering faculty, located aside of the church of San Pietro in Vincoli. Now our restaurant offers its tables to enjoy the regional cuisines, the roman one of course, but also the ones of Umbria and Tuscany, with many ideas taken form the southern regions, mainly Campania and Puglia: our cuisine is Mediterranean regional. La Cicala e la Formica has decided to work only with products of absolute genuineness, favoring the seasonal offer: our daily menu, offers tasty and original dishes, linked to tradition and created with grace.
We produce on our own bread, egg-made pasta (including ravioli) and all desserts: we have the Carta dei Dolci (Dessert List), that is changed every day, to delight even the most exigent greedy people. La Cicala e la Formica is a cozy restaurant that offer 38 seats indoors, with air conditioning, and 15 in the delightful dehors, framed by green, used during spring and summers. We are open all year long except a period of two weeks of vacation during August. Our weekly closure day is Sunday. We love our work but we are not jealous of our recipes: upon request we organize mini-courses of cuisine, also for foreigners, to understand the secret of Carbonara or the correct cooking of Risotto. Our sommelier is ready to introduce you to the tasting of Italian wines to understand the art of the correct coupling between wines and dishes.

The restaurant gives space to painting exhibitions that change every month, but it may also be a pleasant space for other events such as, for example, the presentation of a new book.

Two French sisters gave the name to the restaurant as a tribute to the fabulist La Fontaine; when we took over, we decided to keep it: the Balm-cricket, passionate artist , the Ant , practical and rational.
